Equipped with a first-class honours degree in Biochemistry as well as a PhD from the National University of Malaysia (UKM), Professor Cheong Sok Ching currently leads the Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) Research Team at Cancer Research Malaysia. The main focus of her work involves the identification of genetic changes that drive oral cancer development, with the goal of using this understanding to improve clinical management of cancer-afflicted patients. Notably, her research has resulted in the development of an immunotherapy currently in preclinical testing. In addition, her team is in the midst of developing innovative strategies to repurpose existing drugs for the treatment of HNC.
Her work has received accolades, some of which include the Norman-Rowe Educational Trust as well as the L’Oreal for Women Science Award.
On another note, Professor Cheong serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Malaya.
